What Is It?

Destination College is a 17-month program that ushers high school juniors through the transition from high school to college. This year, 32 young people from Garfield and Barberton high schools were selected for membership. These young people have the potential to be successful in postsecondary education but need significant support.

Academic support: The first priority is getting these young people ready to take the ACT college entrance exam in October of their senior year.

Mentor support: The gap is more than academic; it is also social and cultural. Mentors help break down barriers and shepherd these young people from their junior year through enrollment in a postsecondary institution.

Financial support: Destination College walks parents and their sons and daughters through the procedures to apply for federal financial aid (FAFSA) and pays for ACT registration and the first college application.
